A wee bit more sport...

Before I show you my blanket - tomorrow, I promise - there has been more sport!

Yesterday was the Infant's School Sports Carnival.  It is a tiny school so the sports day is a real family affair.              Miss Meg had the honour of carrying Green House's flag with her friend and had a great time in the races.

Robert got to join in the 3 years and under race which he won, then had a go with the 4 and 5's too!

John came 1st in the Dad's Egg and Spoon Race and I managed 4th - I know, I let the whole family down!

After a sausage sizzle for lunch, we raced off to watch Jonathan play his last football match of the year in the final against another local school and some of his Jaffas team mates!  It was hard not to cheer for boys I've been cheering for all year!  They won 1-0 so he has had a clean sweep.  They made it back to school in time to be congratulated at the Sport Assembly.

I have to congratulate No2 and No3 on their tennis achievements this term.  The Term 3 Comp ended today so I made sure I had my camera for some action and any presentations.

Joseph had his matches first, playing doubles with his pal.  He had to leave a birthday party to go so wasn't best pleased!  They have had the odd success and, considering their age and it being their first comp, I think they can be pleased with themselves.

They were both given Encouragement Awards which meant being able to choose a wee prize - they both chose racquet dampeners ("because they're cool") and got a big round of applause.

Jonathan had his matches later on.  He and his friend have played doubles together for a while now.  It is very handy that Tom now lives literally at the end of our garden and his neighbours have a court that the boys can play on whenever they like.

This term they were put up a division and both complained as they like to win, however despite their protests they were undefeated in the matches they played, but had to forfeit one week when they were both ill.  Despite some "cheating" from the girls they played today, they won their matches and their division!

Richard teasing them for not wanting to be put up!

Looks like they will be going up another division next term.

So I think that is all the sport for a wee while, we have managed to dissuade Joseph from playing cricket this year, football is finished so just more tennis next term.  I might need to see if Tom's mum and I can have a hit on the neighbour's court too...

Have a great weekend!

Busy, busy, busy!

As the title suggests, we have been pretty busy over the weekend!  There has been a large amount of sport and socialising and I even managed to squeeze in a very brief whip around the wonderful Olive Tree market as all the stall holders were packing up!

Friday evening No2 Boy does his tennis comps.  He was ridiculously late home (I drop off, friend's Mum brings home) and when he did finally arrive, he announced that it had been presentation night!!  He and his pal had won their doubles comp again and I wasn't there to record it for posterity! This pic from their last win will have to do instead.

Saturday mornings will now be dominated by Football until August.  No3 boy played first and scored his first goal of the season (obviously I had put my camera away by that point.).  They played a team that were mostly girls so they started off quite gently until a few of them had been knocked off their feet.  No3 Boy was knocked over/shoulder barged 4 times!  They went for it after that and played really well.

I love how the tongue is out with concentration!

Then on to No2 Boy's match.  We lost count of how many goals his team scored, needless to say, they look like they're going to do well this season!

You can click on the photo to enlrage it if you need more detail!

Husband then had his match, but we dropped him and raced to the Olive Tree market to get a present for Miss M's friend's 7th birthday.  We headed straight for Sharlene of Pip Kids.  She is a star, always has something perfect and is more than happy to do something special to order.  She saved the day!  We also bumped into Di of Sketch & Jones and put in an order for some local tea towels.  Such fabulously talented people!

Next was home to bake a Retirement cake for Husband's right-hand man, then to my friend Pippa's Phoenix Champagne and Cards event - it would have been rude not to!

As soon as Husband got back we were straight out for dinner and birthday cake.  By the time we got home, I still had a cake to decorate so was very glad of the extra hour!

Yesterday we then had a house/gardenful of Husband's colleagues so we all had to be on our best behaviour!  I do like having lots of people around but I also like when everyone goes home and the children go to bed.  A nice evening of 'Bones' and crochet for me while Husband snored on the other sofa.

Hope your weekend was wondeful!

Tennis

It doesn't begin with a C/K sound, but I LOVE tennis.  Love playing and love watching.  I seem to have passed this on to No2 Boy.  He loves his football, but when he plays tennis it is on him to win or lose, he's not relying on, or letting down, other people.  I can remember when he was 2 years and 2 months old, I had a new baby and would curl up on the sofa, while he sat beside me and watched full matches of Wimbledon.  He also reminded me that he would get up and cycle to his tennis lessons where we previously lived, wind, rain or snow at the age of 6 on a Saturday morning!  It wasn't far and he has always been a very sensible child.  He now plays at least twice a week and is always asking for private lessons, he has won a doubles competition with his best friend and loves to compete.

This evening we dropped No3 Boy and his friend at Cubs and headed to the courts to play each other for the first time.  We had great fun!  He tried out his best top spins on me while I practised my best volleys on him.  We decided to play a one set match as we were limited for time and light.  It was very close, but I just managed to beat him 6-4.  We had a couple of very tense deuce points, including one match point that I lost!  He was a little annoyed but appreciated the fact that it won't be long before he thrashes me!

I'm thinking I may not be able to walk tomorrow...
